British Airways and Working at Height

British Airways have placed an order with UK based access platform specialists Working At Height Limited following an award resulting from a competitive tender. This investment in safety, productivity and reliability highlights the importance that British Airways place on using the latest and most versatile range of access platforms to ensure safety and compliance with the Work At Height regulations throughout their engineering facilities at London’s Heathrow and Gatwick airports.

Working At Height Limited worked closely with British Airways for 12 months prior to the order being placed for a total of 35 platforms this included extensive trials at both Heathrow and Gatwick, these trials proved beyond doubt that these Genie models were ideal for low level access to their fleet of aircraft, British Airways have been using a wide range of Genie access platforms for many years, where they have earned a tremendous reputation for ease of use, reliability and safety. Working At Height Limited as a UK Genie dealer had the task of introducing and specifying the latest models to British Airways and understanding the requirements and then proving that each model offered the access required.

The outcome of the trials proved the very compact Genie GR-15 Runabout offers quick access into the wheel bay of a Boeing 747 and the larger aircraft in the fleet, and access to the underside of wings, including leading and trailing edges of all aircraft types, and also all aircraft surfaces up to 6.47m (20ft 8in). One of the latest models in the Genie range, the GR-26J was chosen for its immense versatility and the ability to lift two people to a maximum reach height of 9.90m (32ft 6in), it will access wing, fuselage and stabilisers on most aircraft types.

The Genie GS-2032 and GS-2632 scissor is a very close relation to Genie V18 that have been in operation at Gatwick for many years, very nearly the same specification but a 2013 version along with all the improvements Genie have made over time, this type of scissor access platform is the work horse of many hangars world-wide, with the Genie V18 offering more than 20 year of service to British Airways.

Working At Height Limited are based in Surrey, UK and their head office is equal distance from Heathrow and Gatwick airports but the company operate throughout the UK in the main but also globally, the business specialises in the supply of powered access platforms, aircraft docking and bespoke custom built and designed access platforms for all industries.
