We have developed a lightweight aluminium pit board designed to make access across rail maintenance pits safer, quicker and considerably easier to manage.
Traditional steel pit boards can be heavy and awkward, often requiring two people to position, remove or relocate them. Our lightweight design has been developed specifically with single-person handling in mind, helping to reduce manual-handling demands while still providing a substantial safe working load for maintenance personnel and equipment.
Manufactured using a robust aluminium structure with a durable anti-slip working surface, the boards can be quickly positioned across the pit when required and removed or relocated with minimal effort.
The system can also be configured to suit individual depot requirements, including multiple boards used together to create longer working platforms and removable guardrail arrangements where required.
The photograph shows the pit boards installed across a maintenance pit to demonstrate the system. In normal operational use, a rail vehicle would typically be positioned immediately to the front or rear of the working area, meaning the open side shown in the photograph would not normally present an exposed fall hazard.
For rail depots looking to reduce the weight and handling difficulties associated with conventional steel pit boards, our lightweight system provides a strong, practical and operator-friendly alternative.
