Farming health and safety campaign in south-east 

January 2009A campaign which aims to address the health and safety issues of the farming industry has been launched in the south-east.

The Make The Promise, Come Home Safe initiative from the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) is targeted at farmers and their families and asks them to stick to a vow to return home without harm, which may interest those in the industry looking at options such as working at height training.


Using 'promise packs' which were distributed over January, the campaign highlights individual stories where health and safety incidents have left families bereaved and devastated.

Mike Walters, HSE Principal Inspector for Kent, commented: "This summarises recent fatal accidents and is designed to help farmers avoid making the same mistakes.

"We would like to highlight that this is a partnership to keep farmers safe, not HSE dictating the terms."

He also noted that there is an average of 45 deaths each year on the UK's farms.
