When Working At Height Limited, the high-level access solutions company, received a call enquiring about industrial abseiling training, little did they know that the call would lead to international travel and intrigue, with a royal twist!

Working At Height’s Marketing Manager explains “all we were initially allowed to know was that up to 20 crew of a newly constructed boat in the Port of Hamburg needed to be trained in abseiling. It wasn’t until we were sent pictures of the vessel and were not permitted to know the name of the owner that we realised that this was no ordinary boat and certainly no ordinary owner. This of course created immense intrigue in our office”.

It was in fact a multi - million pound super yacht constructed in Germany for a Middle Eastern royal family. Working At Height put together a tailor-made training course for the crew and sent a team of industrial abseiling instructors to Hamburg to complete the course prior to sea trials taking place.

"Industrial abseiling provides an innovative, new approach to working at height and enables access to areas where powered access platforms are unsuitable” explains Working At Height’s Georgina Turner, training co-ordinator. "In this specific case to safely access the funnel and side of a yacht for cleaning, painting and maintenance when at sea". <
