Access Platforms and 'a silver anniversary' + 1

1st February 2013

In January 1987 our Director Ottie Whittle joined 'John Rusling Limited' (they are no longer), John Rusling was an innovator and businessman who is credited for bringing the first aluminium scaffold tower to the UK from America, and it was this product that Ottie excelled at selling in those early days, along with products that no longer exist, such as the 'Air Lift' the forerunner to Genie AWP of today and what were then termed as 'flying carpets' now self-propelled scissor lifts, but from day one Ottie was involved in the design of bespoke access platforms and walkways with a baptism at 150ft on a Spandeck walkway in roof of the Great Hall at Alexandra Palace, in 1987 Ottie learnt his first lesson in the access industry 'look up, not down!'.

Ottie has gone on to be one the UK's veterans (a term he not does concur with) in the access platform industry, and has created platforms for and sold to every conceivable industry in the UK and even overseas, but has also trained new recruits and created jobs in an industry that that has matured over the years, the last 26 years have seen many changes, but in Ottie's case, not in personnel!
