BIG Ambition for Working At Height Limited at the BIG 5 Show in Dubai

19th November 2012

As the UK government are making very clear, the way to induce future prosperity is to export, Working At Height Limited therefore took up this challenge as an SME, which we believe the advice is aimed at, and headed off to the facilities management exhibition 'FM Expo a part of the BIG 5 Show' from the 5th to 8th of November at the World Trade Centre in Dubai, here we showcased our wares to an audience across the region with visitors to our stand from right across the UAE, and also Bahrain, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Lebanon, Oman and Iraq.

The BIG Show in Dubai is the regions and one of the worlds largest 'Building and Construction' shows and is held annually with over 50,000 visitors estimated for the 2012.

As a an SME (small to medium enterprise) we believe this was an ambitious move, that will pay off, just the logistics alone was a very great challenge, but as the photo shows we had quite a smart if not small but we believe quite an impressive stand considering we were 3,000 miles from home, and the only UK company exhibiting at the FM Expo at the BIG 5, and furthest travelled exhibitors also, so quite an achievement.

We were delighted and excited on the first morning of the show to have a visit from the UK Prime Minister David Cameron, who was in the region for three days to close sales of the Tornado fighter aircraft but took the time to stop and visit the show with Lord Green the Trade and Industry Minister, there were a total of 46 UK exhibitors at the main show and under the UK Pavilion umbrella, however Working At Height were 'flying solo' at the FM Expo.

And it would seem that the government are putting our money where their months are, as on the evening of the 5th of November we were invited to the British Embassy in Dubai for drinks hosted by Lord Green, where Lord Green also gave a very heartfelt thank you to us for making such an effort and helping the UK economy to grow.

The four day show was finished off by our Director Ottie Whittle making a speech in the 'World Trade Centre Arena' entitled 'Working At Height - Getting it Right', this was by invitation of the show organisers and was very well received and without doubt Ottie's 27 years of experience was helpful to the enthusiastic audience, the speech was followed by a Q & A session, as a UK access industry veteran it was acknowledged that this was the driving factor to attend and also that the governments of the region are increasing regulation on work at height.

Ottie and Georgina Turner from our head office hosted the stand, armed with specially designed and printed brochures and business cards in both English and Arabic, this acknowledgment to the regions language was very much appreciated, a gesture made only by Working At Height Limited, as English is widely spoken throughout the Middle East.
